Earning their pay

Sunday gaming was another trip through the breach, with Malifaux.

As seems to be the norm of late me an Brad once again squared off, while the others played Warlord (A system i will cover at a later date).

Brad decided for a change to gun his goblin crew, while I decided to give my Sonia crew a run, as they have been having some success o late.

Brad with some conviction had me convinced that the goblins were the worst crew in the game and that I would have no problems dealing with them.

The first couple of turn’s were pretty slow with us trying to get into vision, so that we could get the drop on the other. Unusually we were playing with out schemes and strategies. So it was going to be a straight up fight.

With this in mind I divided up my forces to deal with Opheilia who was advancing on my left flank with a witchling and a Death Marshal. While Sonia, Hopkins and my other Witchling moved to intercept the war pig. Alas in the critical turn, not only did I have a control hand where the highest card was a 5, but I also lost the initiative even with burning a soulstone.

Brad used the war pig’s special action to charge multiple models, first devastating Hopkins and killing the Witchling.

I used my opportunity to rapid fire the war pg and kill it, only to have Hopkins finished off by a goblin in the next activation, my other flank no better with my other stalker being shot down by a boosted goblin, with Ophelia finishing off the Death Marshal. Left with just Sonia I was not feeling confident.

I lost the initiative, which at this point cost me the game, Sonia in a vane attempt to stave of the inevitable but the sheer amount of fire power that Opheila can put out with her companion just blew poor Sonia apart

  1. I hope Som’er Teeth was also in his crew. If not, it was an illegal crew. Ophelia can only hire Gremlins and Kin. None of the pigs (Warpig, Piglet, and Stuff Piglet) have the Gremlin characteristic. Som’er can hire Gremlins, Pigs, and Vermin.

Also, Malifaux works better as you increase the amount of terrain. Most skirmish games do, actually.

    • Som’er was leading his crew, this was Brad’s game using Opheiia, he’d given up on gremlin’s, but after this he has started playing them again on a more regular basis, last game i saw him play included Som’ers Avatar
